Alpha Sprouts

Alpha Sprouts will be a modified and adapted version of the Alpha program for children in grades 1 - 4 and available to children beginning in January 2021 (after parents of the family have experience Alpha for themselves).  The topics will be the same that parents, middle-schoolers, and high-schoolers experience as part of the Alpha Course, presented in a kid-friendly format.

It is important to know that Alpha Sprouts is designed to be paired with the experience of the Alpha Course of the parent(s).  Our focus at St. Francis de Sales is to provide a way for families to encounter Jesus through the Alpha Course and together build up our domestic churches, rekindle our relationships with the Lord and his church, and be sent out to live as passionate disciples.

For this (2020-21) year, we are focusing on Alpha for adults (parents or any adult in the parish) with the winter/spring focused on providing our children and youth their own experiences of Alpha.  In years to follow when it is reasonable to once again meet in person, we plan to offer Alpha sessions for the whole family at the same time, followed by family faith formation and/or sacrament preparation.

Themes for Alpha Sprouts follow the typical Alpha Course and may include:

  • Is there more to life than this?
  • Why did Jesus die?
  • How can I have faith?
  • How and why should I pray?
  • How and why should I read the Bible?
  • How does God guide us?
  • Who is the Holy Spirit?
  • What does the Holy Spirit do?
  • How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?
  • How can I make the most of the rest of my life?
  • How can I resist evil?
  • Why and how should I tell others?
  • Does God heal today?
  • What about the church?
