How to Recognize God’s Presence and Voice
by  Michael Fonseca

In response to Jesus’ prayer, the Father has granted us the gift of the Holy Spirit who is described by Jesus as our Advocate before the Father.  Jesus goes even further when He says that the Holy Spirit will dwell within us.  Thus the Holy Spirit is the creator and keeper of our souls/spirits.  Discernment is essentially life in and with the Holy Spirit.  We will examine our life in the Spirit and how it unfolds in every day life and circumstances.

Emmanuel means “God with us”.  In what ways is God with us, born for us, and within us, this Christmas?  Embedding in the Christmas Scriptures are issues such as the roles of women in society, fatherhood-then and now, the intersection of religion and politics, the role suffering plays in salvation, the importance of strangers in our lives, the relationship of world religion to one another and God’s celebration of humankind.  Prepare for this Christmas with an adult spiritual reflection on the meaning and message of the Christmas story.
