One in five children in West Michigan is affected by hunger.  Through their Sack Suppers, Kids’ Food Basket is a force in Grand Rapids, Muskegon and Holland for attacking childhood hunger, ensuring that lunch is not the last meal of the day.

St. Francis de Sales is partnering with Kids Food Basket to recruit volunteers who help in a variety of ways – preparing, packing and delivering the Sack Suppers every school day to two schools in the Holland area.  As volunteers and finances become available, they are ready to expand to a third school.  We’d like to help them do that.

There are a variety of ways to volunteer, primarily at their preparation site on James Street, but also some things can be done in your home.

The first step is to register on-line are www.kidsfoodbasket.com.  Following registration, you can schedule all on-site volunteering on-line, according to your schedule and their needs, which are given in detail at their website.

If you are having trouble registering on-line, are uncomfortable with the computer, or have any other questions regarding other ways to get involved, call Marilyn Torborg (English) at 392-7756 or Carmen Thompson (Español) at 610-0832.

You can also be part of this ministry by helping after one of the Masses on the weekend or on Wednesday evening every month. We're now doing the packing in the gathering space where you can see us and just join in.
