A "consistent ethic of life" is a term coined by the late Cardinal Joseph Bernardin of Chicago. This phrase names the Catholic Church's teaching of the sanctity of human life from womb to tomb. As a gift from God, every human life is sacred from conception to natural death. The life and dignity of every person must be respected and protected at every stage and in every condition.

January 22 marks the anniversary of the landmark Roe vs. Wade decision in the United States to legalize abortion. Since that tragic decision, more than 56 million children's lives have been lost to abortion.
