We received word that Deacon Juan (Johnny) Garcia, brother of Father Pedro Garcia, entered into eternal life yesterday, June 30, 2014. Deacon Garcia was ordained a deacon on January 11, 1978. He is survived by his five children and their families. Since his ordination to the permanent diaconate, he served as a deacon at St. Francis de Sales Parish. Deacon Juan is survived by his children, Irma and Ron Hulst, Rick and Veronica Garcia, Jesse and Amy Garcia, Cecilia Garcia, Danny and Anna Garcia, 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, three brothers.
In his ministry, he visited the hospital, often multiple times a day, many nursing homes, and visited shut-ins. Through St. Francis de Sales Parish, he was heavily involved with Cursillo, and also served as a permanent greeter, in addition to many other roles in the church.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 6-8 PM with Rosary at 7 PM at St. Francis de Sales Parish, 171 West 13th St., Holland, MI.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 11 AM at St. Francis de Sales Parish with Father Pedro Garcia as the principal celebrant.
