Preparation for First Communion for Children and Teens

First Communion at St. Francis Parish is normally celebrated in the Spring of second grade; however preparation programs are also available for older children and teens.

Children in second grade can prepare for First Communion in either of two different programs:

  • Wednesday Evening Faith Formation Program, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. for grades 1-5.  In this program, preparation for First Communion is only for the 2nd graders.  Other important topics about God, the Church, and morlaity are studied by the children in grades 1, 3, 4, and 5.

  • Monthly Family Program, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. usually on the second Sunday of each month.  This program is for the entire family.  Families with second graders can prepare through the program, which includes done at home to prepare for First Communion.

Children and teens older than 2nd grade (along with their parents) are prepared for First Communion through the CIC-English Program which meets on Tuesday evening, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.  Children and teens meet weekly; parents meet monthly.

In addition to these classes, parents attend the Covenant Program and a parent-child retreat.  For more information on this program, contact the Faith Formation Office, 392-67000, ext. 109 or ealba@stfrancisholland.org.
